Meet the Maker

About
Old Yard

All about the Old Yard. Where we come from, what we do.

My name is Adam. I design and manufacture shepherd huts from a workshop on Bainton Road, Barnack, in the village that gives The Barnack its name.

I spent 14 years in the construction trade before founding Old Yard, working on high-specification kitchen and bathroom renovations across Stamford and Rutland. That background is what makes the difference in how I build. I understand moisture control, structural integrity, thermal performance, and what actually goes wrong in buildings over time. Every hut I make carries that knowledge, not just in how it looks, but in how it performs.

The Workshop

The village of Barnack sits where Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, and Rutland meet. It is a corner of England that has been making things well for a very long time. The limestone from these quarries built Peterborough Cathedral, Crowland Abbey, and some of the finest medieval architecture in the country. I build a few fields from where those quarries stood.

The workshop is on Bainton Road. Visits are welcome by arrangement, and most customers find it useful to come and see the build quality in person before placing an order.

How I Work

Some customers arrive knowing exactly what they want. Others have a space in mind and no idea yet what should go in it. Both are fine starting points.

I work with each customer from the initial conversation through to sign-off on the final specification. There are no surprises on cost: the price is agreed before the deposit is placed and does not change unless the specification changes. Every hut is built by me, in Barnack. Not subcontracted. Not flat-packed. Built from scratch, the right way.

Let’s Talk

If you have a project in mind, or want to understand what is possible before committing to anything, get in touch. A conversation costs nothing and usually answers most of the questions.
