The Bainton
18ft Self-Contained Shepherd Hut - Materials & Finishes
This document sets out the choices available when specifying your Bainton. Every hut begins with a fixed baseline: the structure, insulation, underfloor heating, king-size bed frame, en-suite shower room, kitchenette, panoramic window, and wood-burning stove are included as standard. What you choose here determines how your hut looks and feels.

The Bainton's cladding sits over a fully insulated frame, so the choice is largely aesthetic, but wooden cladding requires significantly more maintenance than our plastisol coated steel. Corrugated steel is the traditional choice and the most durable in exposed positions. Timber weathers beautifully in sheltered gardens and woodland settings, developing a silver-grey patina over several years.
Corrugated Steel
0.7mm Plastisol-coated steel, matching roof gauge. Robust, low-maintenance, and traditional to the shepherd hut form. Colour from the palette overleaf.
Larch Featheredge
European larch, treated with natural oil. Warm amber when new, weathering to a soft silver-grey over 2–3 seasons. Suits sheltered, wooded settings.
Western Red Cedar
Naturally durable, lightweight, and aromatic. Rich reddish tone mellowing over time. Excellent thermal performance as a secondary layer to the insulation envelope.
Cor-Ten Weathering Steel
Self-oxidising steel that forms a stable rust patina. No paint required. The colour deepens over years from orange to a rich, dark amber-brown. Striking in open landscape settings.
Shou Sugi Ban
Traditional Japanese charred accoya. The surface is deeply carbonised to create a striking jet-black finish that is naturally rot-resistant and highly durable. Over time, the charred exterior weathers gracefully to a textured charcoal grey.
Plastisol-coated corrugated steel is available in the colours below. All are factory-applied, UV-stable finishes with a 30-year manufacture's coating guarantee. Colours are subject to availability.
Can't decide? Black and Anthracite are our most popular choices. They both photograph exceptionally well, read confidently in any garden setting, and ages without visible weathering.
The Bainton's panoramic end window comes as standard. The Bainton also comes with a flush sash window above the kitchenette and a obscured glass window in the ensuite. All frames are double-glazed draught-sealed and finished in your chosen colour unless specified otherwise.
Panel Door with Glazing - uPVC
Highly durable and requiring the least upkeep, whilst also being very thermally efficient. uPVC is ideal for holiday lets or those looking for minimal maintenance. Available in a range of colours and styles.
Stable Door - Hardwood
Traditional top-and-bottom split door. Opens the hut to the garden while retaining privacy in the lower half. Solid hardwood with double-glazed top light and period ironmongery.
French Doors - Hardwood
Full-height double doors opening outward. Floods the interior with light and creates a natural threshold between inside and a decked step or path.
Window Style
Flush Sash Windows - uPVC
Traditional flush sash windows in uPVC. Sits flush with the frame for a clean period look while opening smoothly for light and ventilation.
Flush Sash Windows - Hardwood
Traditional flush sash window. Sits flush with the frame for a clean period look while opening smoothly for light and ventilation. Solid hardwood with double-glazed lights and period ironmongery.
Casement Windows - Hardwood
Traditional side-hinged casement window. Opens wide to the garden for fresh air and views while keeping the frame secure. Solid hardwood with double-glazed lights and period ironmongery.
Ironmongery Finish
Antique Brass
Warm, traditional. Works well with oak interiors and period-style kitchens.
Satin Black
Contemporary and versatile. Particularly strong against natural timber and white walls.
Brushed Nickel
Understated and modern. Suits pared-back interiors with a Scandinavian influence.

Internal lining sits over the insulation. These choices govern the main living space and sleeping area.
Painted T&G Matchboard
Tongue-and-groove pine, factory-primed and painted in your chosen colour. Clean, honest, and light-reflecting. The most versatile internal finish.
Natural Pine T&G
Unfinished, unfilled. The grain and knots visible. Oiled for protection, ageing gradually to an amber tone. Warmer and more rustic than painted board.
Oak Veneer Panels
Flush panels with a real oak veneer face. Cleaner lines than matchboard, slightly more contemporary. Strong contrast with dark ironmongery.
Solid Ash Matchboard
Custom milled solid ash matchboard cladding with raised grain and custom profile. Available with or without paint in a colour of choice
Interior Paint — Curated Palette
Bespoke paint colours to your Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, or Dulux reference are available — just bring a sample or shade reference to your consultation.
The Bainton's underfloor heating comes as standard and runs beneath the full floor area. The floor covering sits on top and should be chosen for its warmth underfoot as much as its appearance. Engineered oak is the recommended choice.
LVT Flooring
Combining the hardwearing properties of vinyl with the charm of oak, LVT is an excellent way to add a premium aesthetic inspired by organic materials while the vinyl surface is scuff and stain-resistant.
Engineered Wood Flooring
Real oak veneer over a stable plywood core, engineered to sit comfortably above underfloor heating without the movement solid wood can suffer. Warm underfoot, and develops a soft patina with wear.
Reclaimed Parquet Flooring
Reclaimed oak parquet, each block carrying its own history of colour, grain, and wear, laid in your patten of choice. No two floors are the same.
The Bainton's kitchenette is built-in as standard and includes a two-ring electric/gas hob, undercounter fridge, stainless steel sink, with storage above and below. What you choose here is the cabinetry style, worktop material, and tap finish.
Cabinet Style
Shaker Style MDF
Painted MDF with the classic recessed-panel Shaker profile. Simple, durable, and a natural fit for both traditional and pared-back interiors. Available in any colour from the paint palette, with a smooth, hard-wearing finish.
Shaker Style Hardwood Oak
Solid oak with the same recessed-panel Shaker profile, left in its natural grain rather than painted. Warmer and more characterful than MDF, with a texture and weight that only solid timber gives.
J-Pull Handle
A flush, handle-free door with an integrated J-shaped pull milled into the top edge offering clean, contemporary lines.
Worktop Material
Rustic Oak
Solid oak with a clean, square profile edge and a clear, knot-free grain selection for a refined, uniform finish. Warm and tactile underhand, it brings the same natural material language as the flooring and joinery through into the kitchenette
Compact Laminate
Exceptionally hard-wearing, heat and scratch resistant, and practically maintenance-free. A sensible, no-fuss choice for a hut in regular or commercial use, available in a range of finishes from solid tones to stone effects.
Quartz Worktop
Engineered quartz in a clean, bright white. Non-porous, heat-resistant, and essentially maintenance-free.

The en-suite includes a 900×800mm shower enclosure, toilet, vanity basin, thermostatically-controlled shower and electric towel rail.

Shower Tray
900x800mm UK made, gel-coated stone resin shower tray. Just 28mm in hight ensures a minimal threshold entry into the shower area.

Wall Tile Style
Mermaid Collection Wetwall panels
Waterproof panelling for the en-suite shower, eliminating grout lines and the maintenance that comes with them. Choose your design from the Mermaid collection, featuring a waterproof plywood core, and a range spanning marble and stone effects through to plain tones.
Elite Collection Wetwall panels
The Elite collection features a waterproof foam core rather than the plywood backing used elsewhere in the range - lighter, fully impervious to moisture, and better suited to a compact wet space where durability matters. Richer, more detailed marble and stone effects than the standard collection, seamless and grout-free throughout.
Alloy Collection Wetwall panels
The Alloy collection consist of a design layer adhered to an an aluminium surface layer on both sides. 4mm think and fully impervious to moisture. Available in a wide range of colours/patterns including tile effect.

Composting WC
A perfect choice for
The Bainton's electric underfloor heating runs beneath the full floor and is thermostatically controlled. The wood-burning stove is the atmospheric heart of the hut — a different kind of heat, slow and radiant, that no underfloor system replicates in character. The flue exits through the roof.
Cubic Cub Wood Stove
The Cubic Cub Wood Stove outputs 14,000BTU, approximately 3 times the required heat output of a hut this size. Providing ample heat for cold winter nights.
The Bainton is wired with a consumer unit, RCD protection, three double sockets, two USB charging points, and LED downlighters as standard. The choices here are the fitting style, the switch and socket finish, and the exterior lighting position.

Polished Chrome
Classic finish. Suits chrome and stainless bathroom fixtures.
Antique Brass
Warm and traditional. Works exceptionally well with a Shaker kitchen and painted matchboard walls.
Matte Black
Contemporary, strong. Best with an all-dark interior or white matchboard with black hardware throughout.

The Bainton's king-size bed frame is built into the structure with under-bed storage. The head can be positioned towards your preferred direction.
